The Nature Coast Coalition strives to unite communities and organizations along Florida's Nature Coast to protect these last, best places in our state. Help us share information and resources that help us work together to conserve our natural heritage.
The Nature Coast Coalition is holding our annual Fall Conference on November 13 at Crystal River State Buffer Preserve. The Nature Coast is one of the state’s last beautiful, undeveloped regions. The Nature Coast is an amazing and diverse mosaic of wetlands, rivers, seagrass beds, coastal marshes, and uplands that create one of the most ecologically important areas left in the Gulf of Mexico. It is a beauty and a natural heritage we want to protect for future generations.
FIve reasons you don’t want to miss this conference:
1) Excellent speakers! University of Florida professors Steven Noll and David Tegeder have recently received many awards for their research on the Cross Florida Barge Canal and how that fight shaped our region as well as Florida’s future. Sue Mullins has spent years fighting the good fight in our state capitol and will bring us an update on the bold, new, always changing frontier of Florida politics.
2) Interesting people! This conference draws people from many different Nature Coast groups in academia, science, policy, and the arts. Meet people like yourself who care about protecting the Nature Coast and what it means to all of us. There is a lot to learn from each other, and lots of enthusiasm to share.
3) Learn about the Tarmac limestone proposal in Levy County and how we can stop it. This mammoth project proposes to to destroy 2300 acres of wetlands and impact drinking water wellfields. It is in direct opposition to the what the county plan suggests for the future of the Nature Coast. Get involved so that the Nature Coast can steer our future in a sustainable direction.
4) Take a hike! At 4:00, we’ll take a short hike through the Crystal River Preserve area and soak up the local flora and fauna.
5) Free lunch, but you must register ahead of time. The organizers also need a head count so we know to have enough food, so let us know sooner rather than later. You can register at the link below!
