The Nature Coast Coalition strives to unite communities and organizations along Florida's Nature Coast to protect these last, best places in our state. Help us share information and resources that help us work together to conserve our natural heritage.
The Florida legislature meets for a special session next week to take up discussion and vote for a coastal protection/ anti-oil drilling amendment to appear on the November ballot. This amendment will then need to pass by 60% in November. There are rumors that many house members are siding with the oil industry, who does not want Florida citizens to have the chance to vote for protections of our own coasts. Just as Florida passed good coastal protection laws in 1990 as a response to the Exxon Valdez accident, we now need to enshrine the protection of our coasts with a constitutional amendment. Since the industry is fighting us with hordes of lobbyists in Tallahassee, we need these protections now more than ever and to let the public vote.
Be sure and call your house and senate Florida representatives to tell them to vote for a ballot amendment to permanently protect Florida’s coasts from oil and gas drilling!
Here are some pics from our Hands Across the Sand gathering in Cedar Key on June 26. It’s events like these that show public support and unwavering spirit!
